The City of St. Paul MN is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River. It is known for its parks, conservatories, and lakeside attractions. The riverfront area is home to numerous shops and restaurants, as well as historic buildings such as the Wabasha Street Caves. In downtown St. Paul there are many art galleries, museums and theaters.

St. Paul and one of Minnesota's oldest cities and has a rich history that dates back to 1838 when it was founded by Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant. This French-Canadian fur trapper set up shop at what is now Lambert's Landing on the east side of the Mississippi River near present-day downtown St. Paul.

The origin and growth of the city was spurred by the proximity of Fort Snelling, the first major United States military presence in the area, and by its location on the Mississippi river at a natural waterfall that provided power for sawmills and flour mills.

The city developed around present day Lambert's Landing, as the last place to unload boats coming upriver at an accessible point prior to moving inland towards Minneapolis. By 1838 it was gaining steam as a regional capital, with a population of around 1,000. In 1849 it officially became Minnesota Territory's first capital city. In 1854, St Paul incorporated as a city.
